House’s Eight Year run to End in May

House’s series finale will be broadcast in May.

The expected news was confirmed by a joint announcement by executive producers Katie Jacobs, David Shore and Hugh Laurie. It goes thus:

After much consideration, the House M.D producers have reached the decision that the current season of the series which is the eight, should be the very last. A total of 177 episodes would have been completed by April of this year, which is approximately 175 above what had been expected in 2004.

It was very painful taking this decision to bring the show to an end, because it can tear apart the numerous close friendships forged in the last 8 years, but also due to the fact that the show has made everyone involved proud.

Since its commencement, the show has aimed to provide a fulfilling and rational world in which age long human questions of emotion and ethics, truth and logic, could be scrutinized, and answered occasionally. This may sound like words of fantasy, but that is not what it is. House has during its time, thrilled viewers around the globe in large numbers. The show has proved that people still strongly desire television shows that relies not just on gun play and beauty.

But now that era is about to end. House has always been seen as an inscrutable creature by the producers; he should not be the last individual to exit the party. It is a lot better to leave before the music ends, while some mystique and promise is still in the air.

To the numerous dedicated technicians and artists who have provided a generous amount of their talent and energy to make House a success story, the producers are saying a big thank you today. Your services may even still be needed on one cable television or another.
